BIO

Dr Antonia Matamalas Md, PhD, is a spine surgeon treating pediatric and adult spinal deformity at Hospital Vall d´Hebrón, in Barcelona, Spain. Dr Matamalas completed his medical school at the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona and received his medical degree in 2004. He did his Orthopedic Surgery residency program at Hospital del Mar until 2010. Since then she has been an attending surgeon specialized in Spine Surgery at Hospital Vall d´Hebron. She earned her PhD in 2013.

During her residency programme, she spent 3 moth at the Spinal Tumors unit of Instituto Orthopaedico Rizzoli with Dr. Stefano Boriano . In 2015 she spent two months with Dr. Frank Schwab and Dr. Han Jo Kim, within the framework of a visiting training program at Hospital for Special Surgery, New York.

She is part of the VHIR (Vall d’Hebron Institute of Research). She has published 16 peer-reviewed papers and more than 150 presented abstracts at national and international meetings.
